I've always had flares in my wardrobe for many years even as a child. I started wearing them again in 1998 and about 5 years ago up until now. I love this style because it's sexy and it gives your curves an hourglass figure. With holes or without, I'm rocking this timeless style until the end of time! Oh Holy Jeans Jeans are so popular and for decades, they've always been a thing. They're comfy, and now very stretchy, and affordable. My fav looks, are distressed, holy, skinny, flared, and high-waisted. Jeans are a great way to show off your personal style. What I love the most is that you can wear jeans with holes and no one will make fun of you. I love the way that each hole is strategically placed, so unique and sexy. They're great to wear all year round. In the winter, wear colored stockings are fishnets under them. You can see the pop of color peeping through the holes, I love it. Jeans are so freaking cool, I think every woman no matter the age should own a pair. Take a look inside and be inspired by some of my favorite picks. White Boots White is the new black when it comes to fashion. There are no more rules to live by here. You can wear white all year round, From bright white to off-white. You can wear a white T-shirt, sweater, denim jeans and last but not least some sexy and comfy white boots. Your white boots can also be paired with muted, dark, and multi-colored pieces in your wardrobe. If you're going to wear it, make sure you pare it well. for example, white boots, blue denim jeans, a white shirt or blue denim shirt, and blue denim jeans with a white purse and white boots.     A Healthy Diet Is Essential to Weight loss & Everyday Living Eating healthy is not always easy but I can tell you this, there are many tasty and healthy meal options out there that are fit for a Queen! "Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food" Steak Tenderloin with a side of steamed or sauteed veggies and baby potatoes. Diet and nutrition are a very important part of life. In order to stay strong and well balanced, it's essential to add a well-balanced meal to your daily routine, breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Pan seared chicken with steamed veggies Lean meats and seafood with protein, vitamins and minerals, and even minimal carbs will help to fuel your body and brain. TILAPIA Healthy and Beautiful Fruits and Vegetables If you're not one to take daily supplements like vitamins and minerals, you'll need to find them elsewhere like fruits and vegetables. Also, if you're thinking about going full-on vegan or partial vegan, don't be scared. Vegetarian and vegan diets can be healthy. However, they do lack certain nutrients. When going on this diet, be sure to get enough protein, calcium, iron, and vitamin B12. You can get plenty of that from plant-based supplements and alternative foods. When some people think of vegan, they envision their plate looking like the one in the picture. Empty, non-appealing, and non-appetizing. Don't worry, you can be a pescatarian and still enjoy seafood, or be a vegan and get creative with it. I did both, 6 months out of the year for the last 7-8 years and you know what, it's not so bad. A pescatarian is someone who chooses to eat a vegetarian diet, but who also eats fish and other seafood. It's largely a plant-based diet of whole grains, nuts, legumes, produce, and healthy fats, with seafood playing a key role as the main protein source. Many pescatarians also eat dairy and eggs. Vegan diets are made up of only plant-based foods. This type of diet includes fruits, vegetables, soy, legumes, nuts, nut butter, plant-based dairy alternatives, sprouted or fermented plant foods, and whole grains. Vegan diets don't include animal foods like eggs, dairy, meat, poultry, or seafood. A 2016 study from Harvard University found vegetarian dieters lost more weight than non-vegetarians after 18 weeks. Vegan dieters actually saw the most weight loss, losing five pounds more than non-vegetarians, while vegetarians lost three pounds more. The downside to this diet is there are many imitation foods that are processed that have little nutritional value and are high in carbs, calories, sodium, and sugar so be sure to lean toward plant-based foods which include, whole foods such as produce, veggies, whole grains, legumes, nuts, and seeds. Agave is a great replacement for sugar, with no salt seasonings, and plain soy milk and almond milk are great replacements for dairy milk. My favorite butter and cooking oil products are I Can't Believe It's Not Butter and extra virgin olive oil. The takeaway is, you're never limited to what you can eat in the good old U.S. of A! Take a look at the yummy vegan meals listed below. Try it, you'll like it! Vegan Buddha Bowl with tofu, red cabbage, avocado, mango, nuts and kale. Portobello Mushroom Burger sandwich with pickles, sun dried tomatoes, roasted peppers, onions, vegan cheese Salmon and Barley salad with cherry tomatoes and lemon wedges. ALWAYS MAKE TIME FOR BREAKFAST, THE MOST IMPORTANT TIME OF THE DAY. A healthy breakfast provides energy to jump-start your morning but is also a great dietary choice for the first part of your day. Your meal should include the following, fiber, protein, and some fruits or vegetables. Eggs are a good source of protein both egg whites and yolk. They also contain heart-healthy unsaturated fats and are a great source of important nutrients, such as vitamin B6, B12, and vitamin D. Cheese also comes packed with protein. Protein nourishes your skin and hair to help you look your best, helps you maintain lean muscle tissue, and also contributes to blood cell growth. Oh and don't be afraid of whole wheat or rye toast and 2 slices of swiss cheese. Mix your breakfast up and prepare it by using cooking spray or heart-healthy low-fat butter. Steam your veggies and if you must eat bacon, chose low sodium/less fat center-cut bacon, it contains 30% less fat than regular bacon and 35% less sodium than cooked turkey bacon. You can cook it on the stovetop but I prefer to bake mine. Less mess and less stress! A simple, appealing, and delicious breakfast you will have. That good old H2O B.K.A Water Don't forget to drink plenty of H20 with lemon. Lemon water is a great way to flush out toxins. It also aids in digestion and supports weight loss.     skin care & MAKEUP Theresa's Favorite skincare products My daily skin routine. I found these items at my local TJMaxx and Marshalls, so I said why not give them a try? I've been using them all now for years, and they do wonders for my adult acne. Not only that, they keep my face glowing, fresh, and clean. However, they're hard to find now, so my go-to place is Amazon. The importance of cleaning your face and removing all makeup It's so important to clean your face daily, to remove dirt, dead skin, pollutants, and excess oils. If not cleaned, then you are setting yourself up for ance breakouts, aging, and dehydration. I clean mine 2 to 3 times a day. In the morning, after workouts, and before I go to bed. Also, it's so important to clean your makeup products and replace them as often as needed to avoid bacteria. Most importantly, if you love makeup, give your face a breather. You don't have to wear makeup daily, and if so, minimize it with a no-makeup look during the week, and then on the weekend glam it up, but don't cake it up. If you have acne-prone skin like mine, you'll want to use products that are not harsh. Read the ingredients and Google products that are just right for you. When available and affordable, I've always used products that are natural-based, oil-free, and with 2% salicylic acid for acne. People have asked me why I look so young. From my youth, my mom has always taught me to take care of myself from head to toe. Preserve your youth, because soon, gravity will start taking control everywhere! Yikes! LOL! Well, she was right, and it has, but I do believe that because I started early, I have delayed the process from happening noticeably and rapidly. I'm not perfect and have many imperfections. However, I must say I'm proud of my youthful glow, and I'm glad to share some of my beauty secrets with you, from products that I use from makeup to skincare.     Domestic Abuse, Poems, and Help NO MATTER WHAT, YOU ARE A QUEEN! Children are off-limits, cute, tiny, and innocent. You promised me ice cream, but instead, you made me scream. Basements were dark and scary, you knew I was gonna cry. I asked, will the boogie man get me? You said no, take my hand and don't ask why! It was too late before I realized, it was all a big lie!!! There you stand before me, exposed right before my eyes!! You then took me, you hurt me! I was just a child, I could never hurt you; not even if I tried. I prayed to God, please make him stop, because each time you touched me, I wanted to kill myself, I just wanted to die! God answered my prayers. However, the damage was already done. Here I am a child, left violated, broken, and numb. As the years went by, I only had time to borrow, and there were many nights I cried because I wasn't looking forward to tomorrow. I wanted to end all the pain and feelings of despair. These thoughts inside my head were too much to bear. I can't keep reliving these memories, it's disrupting my life; it's so not fair. I prayed again, please help me, God! He said come to me, my child, lay your burdens at my feet. Believe and receive that I will set you free, I'll catch you when you fall, and I'll save you from it all. I believed and received, and because of the grace of God, I'm stronger and much wiser. Have those uncomfortable conversations just to make sure they're good. Teach them early to run and tell that, and no matter what, always take action! Because children are always in the presence of adults when you're not around. WHO AM I I breathe the same air you do. I have two arms and two hands to hold you. I have two legs to stand up tall and feet to press against the pavement, the grass, and the sands in which my Lord walked on when he carried me when I got tired of running from you. I'm soft, like a delicate flower, with so many curves, but you use and abuse them, so no one else will want them. My hair can be worn short if I choose, but you hate it so you refuse to see me. You give me that look of disgust and call me Manish but I'm not! It's not even a word boo, boo, check your vocabulary. Who am I? My voice is softer than yours and on a low key, it can be raised on the highest key when I'm not heard. Although I have ears to hear you, they're damaged by harsh words loudly spoken through your voice, and by painful blows from your strong hands and feet. I constantly bob and weave dancing to your volatile beat. Who am I? You say I use my body and my mind as tools. If this is the case, why you don't know how to use them? Tools are supposed to work if you know how to use them right. Damn you got me feeling hella tight! So please tell me, who am I? Strong, emotional, sensitive, delicate, timid, kind, caring, loving, loyal, and insecure at times. Yes, I am, and I'm not afraid to say it. My creator made me this way, so yell at him, not me. I am a woman! I gave birth to a nation in rage, so don't blame me, you helped me create it. My past was filled with liars, letdowns, and leeches. Lord knows this wouldn't have happened if you found love within yourself and loved me as much as my creator but no, you hate her because you didn't make her. So I ask you again, who am I? Look, God gave you two arms and two hands to hold me, but you don't! God gave you two legs and two feet to stand beside me and stand up for me, but you won't! He gave you two ears to hear and understand me, but you refused to use them. God gave you two eyes to gaze upon mine so that you can realize that I am wonderfully, and fearfully made just like you, but you only see me as a competition and not an equal. Am I that powerful? He gave you lips to kiss mine and vocal cords to say I love you. I'm sorry, I understand, I believe in you, but instead, you want to destroy and break me down. How dare you! You came from my womb! This is how you repay me by trying to put me in a tomb? Who am I? I am your Mother, your Grandmother, your Sister, your Aunt, your Niece, your Girlfriend, your Wife, your Lover, your Partner, and your Ex! If I want, I can be your worst damn nightmare. Time after time, you've disrespected me and treated me like your enemy. Remember this, if nothing else, just as I brought you into this world; I can take you out, so never forget who I am! I will no longer put others first before myself, I will no longer be an enabler. No longer will I accept disloyalty and no longer will I accept anyone who doesn't honor me as much as I honor them. I will no longer stop loving myself and love the person that I am with more than me. I will no longer say yes to everything and will start to say no when I am spent and uncomfortable. Queen Spirit, To Be or Not To Be Spiritual It is your choice. However, coming full circle with oneself should include a spiritual side. I call it Queen Spirit. Having a spiritual side can help you find ways to deal with life’s roadblocks, and it can help you become more mindful, sympathetic, and empathetic. It may also help quiet your mind and soul from negativity. With spirituality comes prayer and meditation. Along with reading your daily bread , prayer can bring relaxation and faith, along with healing and feelings of hope, gratitude, and compassion. All of these can have positive effects on your inner peace and health. Meditation is also relaxing. It helps clear the mind and improves focus and concentration. In addition, a spiritual side also helps foster spiritual fellowship, and it improves your well-being. For example, joining a support or meditation group and attending or joining a church. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. Therefore, confess your sins and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. Elijah was a man like us. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops. See below to check out some of my favorite go-to looks. Day To Night Transitioning Look For an easy, natural look that's wearable all day and night. Not drawn on but try a natural brow look. Use concealer under your eyes for dark patches, then blend it in well with the rest of your skin. Then softly brush eyeliner and mascara on your upper and lower lids and lashes, use a medium natural skin, toned eyeshadow. Lastly, use a brown lip liner and a nude tinted gloss for your lips. Special Occasion Glam Look It's a more defined look. Apply your foundation and concealer, and then use contouring makeup to highlight your forehead, nose, cheekbones, and around your face. Next, get that smokey eye look with a deep dark brown or sparkling black eye shadow and a light shimmer eyeshadow for the inner corner and top lids of your eyes. Put on your best-bought lashes and use an extra stroke of mascara and black eyeliner on your upper and lower lids. Define your brows with a brow pencil and highlighter and on the lips, use a bold matte lip color and medium or dark brown liner. From Natural with a pop of color to photo ready, bold glam, and my favorite; soft and simple, contouring. Exclusive Queen Tips 1. I say no to drawing on your brows but it's your choice. Consult a professional they do it the best. Personally, I love a more natural look, so I would suggest defining the eyebrow lightly so it looks natural and not drawn on. 2. Apply your eye makeup first so stray eye shadow doesn't mess up your foundation. 3. Softly line the upper and lower rim of your eye with a dark bold color liner. Eyeshadow highlights in the corners of the eye are cool too. 4. Add lots and lots of mascara without causing clumps or use fun and sexy faux lashes. 5. Try a slightly sheer foundation for a more natural look. 6. Use the baking technique with concealer and lose finishing powder for dark under-eye problem areas. 7. Use a darker shade of contouring makeup to your forehead, the outer part of your face, the top bridge of your nose, and under your cheekbone area with a blush brush to add angles and definition. 8. To get the bright and luminous look, finish with a highlighter and blush to your cheekbone area and highlight the tip of your nose and to the top of your lip. 9. Set and complete the look with Translucent powder and setting spray. 10. Last but not least, put your best matte lipstick on with a liner or lip gloss to complement your eyes. We have learned that even though more women have joined the workforce around the world, their role as women of the house and homemakers hasn’t diminished. They're planning big things for our future generations. To add, women are more likely than men to encourage other women to pursue traditionally male-dominated fields and take on leadership roles in the workplace but whatever job you work whether it is a 9-5 like myself or owning a business like my husband, love what you do and if you don’t; turn it around and make it work for you until you find something better. Have a plan, set goals, clear your mind, be positive and if you believe in prayer, pray daily. I can testify that prayer changes everything. I'm in the travel industry now for over 24 years and working for the same company. With many great benefits, a family-like atmosphere, and through the ups and the downs, I've decided to plant my feet there for now. With that being said, I'm thankful that I have staying power. It looks good on your credit report and your application when applying for a job or trying to rent or buy a home. I'm a 3-time homeowner and it couldn't of happen if I was going from job to job and messing up my credit.     THE PURSUIT OF LOVE & HAPPINESS Every Queen wants to be in love and live happily ever after, we weren't made to be alone. However, relationships take a lot of work. There are so many failed relationships, and it's sad to know that even the best couples you were rooting for didn't last. So like you, I am also trying to find the secret formula for an everlasting relationship. Let it be known, I'm not a relationship expert, but I've had my fair share of experiences. I've had short and long-term relationships, I've been married and divorced twice and married again in 2020 to a wonderful man. I'd be lying if I said my relationships were perfect. I've been in abusive relationships with ex-boyfriends where I was beaten, stalked, attacked, and had a shotgun and a knife pulled on me. With two failed marriages, I've been lied to and cheated on, and then some, and with several, I'm so sorry, please don't leave me, and failed couples therapy; I completely checked out of the relationships and lived like I was a single woman. My ex-husband, who was my high school sweetheart, lived a double life and had a whole baby that I had no clue about. I didn't know until after we were married. One day I was washing clothes and found a baby diaper receipt in his pants. After 3 years of marriage, I left him because of his lies, his secret drug habit, and his erratic behavior. I found him sitting in the dark with a gun in his lap. Not to mention pretending to go to work when he hadn't been working for a month. Unbeknownst to me, my second husband was a sex attic and a serial cheater. He ultimately lost his job due to sexual harassment. We were together for almost 20 years, so surely it was a devastating loss to me. I was like God, why me? I worked, I cooked, I cleaned, and I did everything that was required of me as a wife. There were no complaints in the bedroom. I'm not a bad-looking person, I take care of myself, and I'm loving, caring, and thoughtful. Most importantly, I put God first. I'm a child of God and a wonderful mother. I questioned and blamed myself and doubted who I was as a person. Am I perfect, no, but tried to be. I felt like in both marriages, I gave it my all until I had nothing more to give. My love tank was empty, so I filed for divorce, and I couldn't wait for it to be final. I just wanted out! I have to admit, not all of my relationships were bad. I've had some great, long-term relationships, but had to end them due to lack of consistency. It went both ways, proposals I declined, and I was waiting for proposals that never came. After a few years of being with someone, naturally, you want to take it to the next level. Even though I've ended relationships because of that, sometimes it made me want to throw my hands up and say; I can't do this marriage thing again but I prayed and said to God even though they weren't made for me, I always knew I was made for it. Besides, I'm in God's favor and I believe in the union of marriage and what it stands for. However, God gives me the wisdom to know when it's time to walk away. He doesn't want us to be unhappy nor does he want us to be in harm's way. In my pursuit of love and happiness, I've learned that not everyone that you fall in love with will mistreat you, lie or cheat on you. I've learned that even the sweetest guy is not perfect and neither am I. I've learned that no matter what, first and foremost, put God first, love yourself, communicate effectively, be mindful, and live a balanced and honest life. I've learned that being alone is ok and having a partner does not complete me but with one, it makes life just a little bit sweeter. Hopeless Romantic Do you believe that your perfect person exists? In this case, a partner who will always be there for you, who will always be supportive of you and do everything you say, who will never hurt you, and who will never leave you. In a perfect world, life is grand, and everyone is worthy of love! It's not perfect, and it's not always butterflies and roses. However, if you can overcome your doubt of being alone and overcome your fear of giving love another try, and learn how to step out of your comfort zone and try something new, you'll learn to connect with the hope of having a partner sent just for you. Love and spend some time with yourself, be willing to change; people, places, and things and invite the newness in. Keep negative thoughts at bay, and when you hear the whispers in your head that tell you that you are unlovable and will end up alone, acknowledge that those whispers are not of God, and then say, I Am A Queen! I am worthy of love! Please know that. Hugs and Love! Written By: Theresa Woods Love, Lust & Trust Sexual frustration, temptation, finances, and mid-life crises, in my opinion, are the root of all evil in relationships. However, God-fearing relationships with a strong bond may be luckier than one without. Having a strong bond makes it easier for couples to trust God, and each other enough to talk openly about their desires, needs, and disappointments; before sabotaging the relationship. While having conversations with couples, they've shared that practicing awareness helps them communicate freely if disagreements and thoughts of infidelity arise. It also helps to build a stronger relationship. Well, kudos to them, but what about couples who are less bonded and become more complacent? What about when one partner gives their all and has everything to offer in a relationship, but still gets deceived? The bottom line is you can be Mr. Rogers or Mary Poppins and still fall by the wayside. Love, lust, and trust go hand in hand. Some people love to lust over something new. At some point in a relationship, it may happen. With unresolved underlying issues, those lustful yearnings will transform into actions, and unbeknownst to the soon-to-be brokenhearted, they have no opportunity to intervene. With that being said, put your trust in God, man is just a man. Rebuke lust so that true love prevails! Work as a team when it comes to finances, and make date nights and sexy time a priority. Pray together to stay together. Take notes and be aware of the changes in your partner, appearance, schedule, and behavior. If it doesn't work out, know when to walk out. It's okay to believe in the union of marriage, but it's also okay to know that God wouldn't want you to be unhappy. They love hard, their love is….. Imperfect. It’s so intense, it seems so wrong. They hate that they love each other so much, they grow apart, but they stay to figure it out. Love is stronger than pride. Obstacles are bigger than their issue. A love story? Fairy tales are for dreamers. Lord, let them sleep, a happy ending is in need. Their body speaks, let’s make love now & so they do. You’re amazing, he says. Issue forgotten. Sex is a temporary fix, like a drug it consumes & overwhelms them. Love empowers them.     Your Daily Braid Reading a scripture followed by a prayer helps to set the tone for the day. Your daily bread is your food for the day in the form of scripture and prayer.
